Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about sourcing Tanzanian commodities with confidence.

Quality & Product

How do you verify product quality?

We work with vetted producers and conduct rigorous quality checks at origin. For international buyers, we offer optional third-party inspection by SGS or Bureau Veritas at the port of loading. All commodities are graded to international specifications, and we provide full documentation including phytosanitary certificates and certificate of origin.

What quality standards do you follow?

Our grading follows international commodity standards. For agricultural products, we reference moisture content, purity, and size specifications. For gemstones and minerals, we follow established industry grading systems. All specifications are clearly stated in our Proforma Invoice and sales contract.

Do you provide samples?

Yes. We can provide representative samples for most commodities upon request. Sample costs and shipping arrangements are discussed on a case-by-case basis.

How do you handle aflatoxin testing for nuts and grains?

We conduct aflatoxin testing through accredited laboratories. Test results are provided with each shipment, and we work with producers who follow Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to minimise contamination risk.

Logistics & Shipping

What does FOB Dar es Salaam mean?

FOB (Free On Board) Dar es Salaam means our responsibility ends when the goods are loaded onto the vessel at Dar es Salaam port. All export documentation, local logistics, and port handling are covered by us. The buyer is responsible for ocean freight, insurance, and import clearance at the destination port.

What is your typical lead time?

Lead times vary by commodity and availability, but generally: available commodities ship in 7-14 days from contract signing; seasonal commodities are scheduled according to harvest cycles; and bulk orders take 21-30 days for sourcing and consolidation.

How do you handle logistics delays?

We monitor port conditions and maintain relationships with multiple freight forwarders to mitigate delays. Our Live Allocation Tracker provides real-time visibility into available tonnage and lead times. We communicate proactively with buyers about any potential disruptions.

What documentation do you provide?

We provide a full export documentation package including: Proforma Invoice, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin (Tanzanian), Phytosanitary Certificate, Fumigation Certificate (where applicable), and Quality Certificates / Test Reports.

Payment & Contracts

What payment terms do you accept?

We offer flexible payment terms based on the buyer profile and transaction size: TT 100% upfront (for smaller transactions); TT 50% deposit with 50% on Bill of Lading (for established relationships); and LC at sight, confirmed and irrevocable, preferred for larger transactions.

How do I verify your registration and compliance?

We are fully registered and compliant with Tanzanian authorities: BRELA Certificate Number 205660348; TRA Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN); and LC ready with confirmed bank facility. All documentation is available to verified buyers upon request.

What happens if there is a dispute?

Our contracts include clear dispute resolution clauses. We aim to resolve any issues through direct negotiation first. If required, we follow the dispute resolution mechanisms specified in the contract, which may include mediation or arbitration under Tanzanian or international law.

Do you require a deposit?

For most transactions, we require a deposit (typically 50% for TT terms) to secure the allocation and cover sourcing costs. The balance is settled against shipping documents. LC transactions follow the terms of the letter of credit.

Trust & Credibility

How can I trust a new company?

While Nexus Mercantile Commodities Limited is a new company (2026), we bring years of experience in financial markets, sales, and international trade. Our compliance credentials are verifiable through BRELA and TRA. We are also LC-ready with confirmed bank facilities. We encourage buyers to request our Buyer Verification Pack, which includes company registration, bank references, and documentary proof.

What is the Buyer Verification Pack?

It is a document package we provide to serious buyers containing: company registration certificate, tax clearance certificate, bank references, sample contracts and Proforma Invoices, and compliance documentation.

Do you have references?

As a new company, we are building our track record. We encourage buyers to start with a small trial order to experience our service quality, documentation, and responsiveness firsthand.
